Mobile Learning in the Institution of Higher Learning for Malaysia students : Culture Perspectives

    Get PDF
Mobile learning usage in a developing country like Malaysia can be considered new. This literature research  is a state of art overview to discuss current issues. The emerging issues come from: types of mobile learning and learning styles; implementation issues of mobile learning; culture dimensions; and user readiness to accept the mobile learning technology. Currently, there is a lack of research about culture aspects to improve mobile learning and university students’ engagement in Malaysia. The objective of this research is to find the gap from the culture perspectives of mobile learning in Malaysia at public institutions of higher learning. The discussions have found that the culture dimensions are not a suitable approach to tackle mobile learning. It is therefore suggested to use a more grounded and sensible cultural  approach for local context

Globalization Era has shifted the human's paradigm of thinking.Knowledge is now seen as the most valuable asset to go through the modernization of the 21st century.Education field is vital to produce professionals in many employment sectors. The education institution today is not only conventional but also integrating ICT in the education process. MyGURU 2 Portal in UPSI is one of the ways to integrate ICT in the education and learning process. A research has been done to study the no avidness of the application of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) in MyGURU 2 Portal. The respondents of the study are 100 which come from students and lectures in UPSI. A set of questionnaire is used to accumulate data that will be analyzed with the use of descriptive SPSS version 12.0 as the chosen software in data analysis. The analysis that be found from the research were used CMMi in MyGURU 2 Portal is satisfactorily improving the students’ achievement in learning.CMMi Model describes more productive and useful to achieving development objectives. It is hoped that this research will benefit many people. The results from this research are also hope to motivate and stimulate the effectiveness, usability and quality of the MyGURU 2 Portal following the CMMI standards

Usability of Electrical E-Wiring Module Using Mobile Apps

In education, the use of smart-phone apps is very helpful in the process of teaching and learning. Therefore, this situation inspires and opportunities for the development of a smart-phone app namely the Electrical e-Wiring Module (called, MePE). The MePE app is a smart-phone app or mobile apps developed to help students who are taking electrical wiring courses to refer how to learn electrical wiring via smart-phone applications. In addition, this application can also be used as a teaching tool in the process of learning electrical wiring. The study was conducted to identify the requirements for MePE app, develops and tests the functionality of MePE app. There are four main sections in this application. This application is developed in accordance with the evolutionary prototype methodology. As a result of the functionality testing performed on the nine functions available on the MePE app all the functions passed the tests that have been performed. In addition, 24 of 31 respondents agreed that the MePE application is helpful and effective in learning electrical wiring. It is hoped that with this application it will help students that study electrical wiring courses to make reference to electrical wiring through this application

High frequency of low noise amplifier architecture for WiMAX application: A review

    Get PDF
The low noise amplifier (LNA) circuit is exceptionally imperative as it promotes and initializes general execution performance and quality of the mobile communication system. LNA's design in radio frequency (R.F.) circuit requires the trade-off numerous imperative features' including gain, noise figure (N.F.), bandwidth, stability, sensitivity, power consumption, and complexity. Improvements to the LNA's overall performance should be made to fulfil the worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) specifications' prerequisites. The development of front-end receiver, particularly the LNA, is genuinely pivotal for long-distance communications up to 50 km for a particular system with particular requirements. The LNA architecture has recently been designed to concentrate on a single transistor, cascode, or cascade constrained in gain, bandwidth, and noise figure

A Preliminary Investigation of Malaysian Student’s Daily Use of Mobile Devices as Potential Tools for STEM in a Local University Context

Mobile learning is a fairly new approach to the educational paradigm where learning is concerned.  The usage of mobile learning may also be extended to various fields including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).   As Malaysia is lagging behind in STEM, this research is conducted to study preliminary information concerning mobile learning in a local university context, particularly, STEM. The method for this research is a descriptive survey. The results indicate that students already have some skills in using mobile phones, particularly multimedia skills, which can be applied to STEM

The growing popularity of mobile devices, together with the constant technological improvement of mobile websites and applications informed about the quality of the user interface design. However, the particularities of mobile devices require special attention in terms of their usability aspects, such as culture. Therefore, this study evaluated the use of culturally appropriate design guidelines for a mobile learning web site. The research methodology used comprised a survey from heuristic evaluation questionnaires with undergraduate students. This research captured the students’ experiences in using the MLearn website of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia.  From the study, the lowest ranking is realistic error management at 3.5, and the highest is suitable content for local culture at 4.6.  This study affirmed that general usability and cultural principles in design are important for a usable mobile learning website system in a local university context.</p

A Review on Cultural Design Elements for Mobile Applications User Interface

    No full text
This study examined the existing use of cultural design elements in design guidelines for mobile applications. Cultural design elements are used to include cultural values in the development of mobile applications. A review of existing design guidelines was conducted to identify cultural design elements practicality pertaining to the mobile application. The keywords "Application", "Design Guidelines", and "User Interface" were searched on ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, and Scopus between 2017 and 2021, including 2022, with 281 articles before filtering and 3 articles selected after filtering. This review shows that cultural design elements in the mobile application played an important role in getting a high usability rate for user’s use. Although it is an important element, its use is still limited usage in the development of mobile applications. As a result, future research will focus on developing guidelines for mobile applications with cultural design elements appropriate for today's technological era in a local context
